Psychotherapy Notes give US behavioral health practitioners a private space to document HIPAA-protected reflections that are separate from the patient's medical record.
Getting Started
Before you can create Psychotherapy Notes, your Account Owner must enable the feature for you. See our guide on How to Enable Psychotherapy Notes for Staff for details.
Instructions
To create a Psychotherapy Note, follow these steps. Once saved, the note is visible only to you and is stored separately from the patient's chart.
- Open a patient's profile and go to the Chart tab.
- Click Psychotherapy Notes.
- Click New Note in the panel that opens on the right.
- Type your note. Edit the date field if needed.
- Click Done.
To edit an existing Psychotherapy Note:
- Open a patient's profile and go to the Chart tab.
- Click Psychotherapy Notes.
- Click the note you want to edit.
- Make your changes. The note saves automatically and the timestamp updates to reflect when you last edited it.
- Click Done.
🩵 Jane Tip: Use the search bar in the Psychotherapy Notes panel to search through all of a patient's notes by keyword.
What to Expect
Your note appears in the Psychotherapy Notes panel in date order. There is a 5,000-character limit per note. Notes are visible only to you and are not included in chart exports or accessible to any other staff member.
