AI Scribe lets you record a session directly in Jane and use the audio to generate a chart draft automatically. This guide covers how to start, pause, and finish a recording in Jane.

Getting Started

Before you record, make sure you have the following set up:

  • A Smart SOAP Note chart entry β€” you'll need a chart entry with a Smart SOAP Note chart part ready before you can start recording. Check out our guide on AI Scribe: Template and Chart Prompts if you haven't set one up yet.

Before you hit record, a few tips to make sure things go smoothly:

  • Make sure your device and browser are up to date.
  • Close any other applications that use a microphone, including other AI scribes or video conferencing tools like Zoom.
  • This feature works best with Chrome or Firefox on Windows, and Chrome, Safari, or Firefox on macOS. Other browsers may not work optimally.
  • If you're on a mobile device, open Jane directly in your browser app rather than from a home screen shortcut.
  • Position your microphone with a clear line of sight to everyone being recorded. Headsets are designed to pick up only the wearer's voice, so avoid them if you need to capture both sides of the conversation.
  • We recommend trying this out with your Test Patient profile before recording a real session.
  • Take backup notes just in case something goes wrong.

🩡 Jane Tip: If you prefer to dictate your notes rather than record a session, you can use the same recording workflow and just record your dictation.

Instructions

To record a session directly in Jane, follow these steps. Once the recording is finished and uploaded, AI Scribe will generate a chart draft based on your prompt.

  1. Open the patient's Chart tab and open the chart entry with your Smart SOAP Note.
  2. Click the microphone icon at the top of the chart entry.
  3. Click Record Audio.

  1. Allow access to your microphone if prompted.

  1. Select your microphone from the dropdown if needed, and check the Mic Check bars to confirm audio is being picked up.
  2. Click Start Record.

What to Expect

A banner appears at the top of Jane confirming the recording is in progress. The banner stays visible no matter which page in Jane you navigate to. You can pause or finish the recording from the banner or from the patient's charting area.

Once the recording finishes uploading, the chart draft fields in your chart entry are populated based on your prompt. You can edit the generated text as much as you like.

Important Notes

  • You can record for up to 90 minutes at a time. You'll receive a warning at the 80-minute mark, and the recording will stop automatically at 90 minutes.
  • You can pause the recording at any time from the banner if you want to avoid capturing personal information or any other content you don't want included in your chart draft.
  • Only one session can actively record at a time. If you need to record for multiple patients, pause the current recording before switching to another patient's tab.
  • The recording banner is only visible to you. Other practitioners won't see it.
  • AI Scribe is not recommended for group appointments. It works best with a one-to-one conversation between a practitioner and a single patient.
