How to add a Medical Alert, Pin or Star your Chart Entries

Jane’s chart organization tools let you surface the information you need most. Use starred entries to keep a full chart entry at the top of a patient’s chart, pinned items to display a single piece of information as a card, and medical alerts to add an administrative note that won’t appear in exported records.

Starring a Chart Entry

Starring a chart entry moves it to the top of the patient’s chart list, where it stays until you remove the star. This is useful for intake forms or any chart entry you reference regularly.

  1. Go to the Patient’s Profile > Charts
  2. Hover over the chart entry you want to star
  3. Click the star icon in the top right corner of the entry

Pinning a Single Item to the Top of the Chart

Pinning lets you display a single item from within a chart entry as a card at the top of the patient’s chart. You can pin multiple items and scroll through them horizontally. This is useful for highlighting specific information like allergies, a prescription, or past subjective ratings.

  1. Go to the Patient’s Profile > Charts
  2. Hover over the specific item within the entry you’d like to pin
  3. Click the pin icon in the top right corner of the item

To hide or show all pinned items, click the Pin icon in the chart’s top bar.

🩵 Jane Tip: You can pin as many items as you’d like. Scroll horizontally through the pinned cards at the top of the chart to view them all.

Unpinning a Chart Item

  1. Go to the Patient’s Profile > Charts
  2. Hover over the pinned entry at the top to reveal the pin icon in the top right corner
  3. Click the pin icon

Jane displays a green confirmation banner when the item has been unpinned.

šŸ“£ Heads up: On a touchscreen device (such as a smartphone or tablet), tap the pinned card. From there, tap the blue pin icon in the original chart entry to unpin.

Adding a Medical Alert

A medical alert is an administrative note that appears in a patient’s chart, but is not included when the chart is exported. Use it for reminders or context that’s useful for your team but shouldn’t appear in official records.

  1. Go to the Patient’s Profile > Charts
  2. Click Medical Alert
  3. Type your note in the medical alert field
  4. Click Save to confirm those changes

Important Notes

  • Jane supports one medical alert per patient. Multiple notes cannot be added as separate lines.
    • Use the existing alert field to consolidate any additional information.
  • Medical alerts do not appear in exported chart records.
