How to Add Medications to a Patient's Chart

Staff Access Level: All levels (with access to the patient's chart)

Add-on Required: No

Getting Started

Before you can add a medication to a chart entry, the medication must already be saved on the patient's profile. Check out our guide on How to Add Medications on a Patient's Profile if you haven't done that yet.

Instructions

To include a medication in a chart entry, add the Medication chart part to the entry. Jane pulls the patient's active medications so you can select which ones to document.

  1. Open the patient's chart entry.
  2. Add the Medication chart part to the entry.
  3. In the panel on the left, select the active medications you want to include in the entry.
  4. Click Add to Chart.

A chart entry with the medication chart part selected and a checklist list of active medications available to add to the chart

What to Expect

The selected medications are added to the chart entry and saved as part of the clinical record.

Important Notes

  • Medications can't be added to intake forms. Staff must add them manually to the patient's profile before they can be included in a chart entry.
