When Should I Use a Treatment Add-on vs. a Product?

Question

What's the difference between a treatment add-on and a product in Jane, and when should I use each one?

Answer

Treatment add-ons and products serve different purposes in Jane. Use the guide below to decide which is right for your situation.

Use a treatment add-on when:

  • The service is professionally administered during the appointment
  • You need to add time to the base treatment for the additional service
  • The service is specific to the practitioner delivering the base treatment

Use a product when:

  • The item is something a patient purchases and takes home (such as essential oils or a topical cream)
  • You want to track inventory for the item in the Inventory Report
  • No additional appointment time is needed

Some items can be set up as both an add-on and a product. For example, PRP, exosomes, or injectable units can be created as an add-on (to block off additional treatment time) and as a product (to track inventory and units used). In that case, you'd add both to the appointment.
