If you're using an Apple device with iOS 17 or macOS Sonoma, Apple's Reactions feature is enabled by default. Reactions makes emojis appear onscreen when certain hand gestures are made during a video call, such as a thumbs up or peace sign. Here's how to turn it off.

On Mac

  1. Check that you're running macOS Sonoma. If you aren't, you don't need to complete these steps.
  2. Open FaceTime and start a video call so your camera is in use.
  3. Click the Video button in the menu bar and click Reactions to turn it off.

  2. Open FaceTime and start a video call so your camera is in use.
  3. Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open the Control Center. If your device has a Home Button, double-press it to open the Control Center.
  4. Tap Video Effects.

📣 Heads up: You'll need to disable Reactions on each device you use for Telehealth calls. If your client is using an Apple device with iOS 17 or macOS Sonoma and doesn't want to use Reactions, they'll need to disable it on their device as well.
