Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a specific Jane plan to use Jane Payroll?

Yes. Jane Payroll is a paid add-on available on the Practice, Thrive, and Legacy plans. See our pricing page for details.

Do I have to move my whole team over at the same time?

Yes, we recommend moving your whole team over at once. Running payroll across two systems can lead to duplicate CRA remittances, mismatched records, and extra work at year-end. You can add contractors later if needed, but all employees should move over together.

Can I switch to Jane Payroll mid-tax year?

Yes. You'll need to migrate your year-to-date payroll information from your previous software so Jane has everything needed to calculate deductions and issue year-end forms correctly. The Jane Payroll support team will help guide you through that process.

How much does Jane Payroll cost?

Jane Payroll is $40 CAD per month as a base fee, plus $6 CAD per active staff member on payroll. There are no setup, migration, or year-end fees. The only potential extra cost is a pass-through fee if a payroll payment fails due to insufficient funds. You won't be charged until you run your first payroll, and charges appear on your regular Jane invoice.

How does staff billing work?

You're only charged for staff who are currently on payroll. If someone leaves your clinic and is removed from payroll, you won't be billed for them after that point. Staff in your Jane account who aren't on payroll don't count toward your monthly total.

How far in advance do I need to run payroll?

See our guide on How Far in Advance Do I Need to Run Payroll in Jane? for the full submission window and pay date schedule.

Does Jane handle all CRA remittances?

Jane automatically files federal payroll remittances to the CRA, including income tax, CPP, and EI. Any additional provincial requirements, such as WCB or other local payroll programs, need to be handled directly by your clinic.

What happens at year-end?

Jane automatically generates and files T4s and T4As for all staff paid through Jane Payroll before the CRA's end-of-February deadline. Staff can access their own forms in their Jane staff profiles. Account owners and payroll admins can access all staff forms under Billing > Payroll > Documents.

Can I pay both employees and contractors?

Yes. Jane Payroll supports both employee and contractor pay, which makes it a good fit for clinics with a mix of practitioners
