What to Expect

What you see on your earnings statement depends on whether you're set up as an employee or a contractor in Jane Payroll. The sections below walk through each.

Understanding Your Earnings Statement

Contractor pay stub

At the top of your pay stub, you'll find:

  • Your clinic's information
  • Your information
  • The pay period and pay date
  • Method of Payment: Paper cheque is selected when payment is being handled outside of Jane, for example via e-transfer, cheque, or cash

📣 Heads up: As a contractor, you'll see the clinic listed as the employer on your pay stub, since the payroll account is tied to their business and bank information. Your income will be filed with the CRA accordingly at year-end, and you'll receive a T4A (if applicable), which is the form specific to independent contractors.

Payment Details

This section shows any pay types where income was generated, with amounts for the current pay period and year-to-date totals.

Taxes Withheld

These are amounts your employer is required to remit to the CRA on your behalf. It's normal to have no income tax deducted if your total projected annual income is below the Basic Personal Amount from the federal TD1 form. If you have questions about the amounts being deducted, check with your clinic owner or accountant.

Important Notes

  • Your pay stub and all information in your Payroll tab is completely private. Only you, your Account Owner, and your Payroll Admin have access.
  • For privacy and security reasons, your pay stub is not attached to your pay day email notification. It's only accessible to you directly in your staff profile.
  • If you think there's a mistake on your pay stub, reach out to your clinic's Account Owner or Payroll Admin as soon as you notice. They can arrange to have any corrections made.
  • If you no longer work at your clinic and need access to your pay stubs, contact your clinic's Account Owner directly, and they'll be able to provide copies.
  • If your address is wrong on your pay stub, you can update it in your staff profile under Payroll > Personal info. This will be updated on future pay stubs.
