In this guide, we’ll walk through how you can enter insurer payments using our ERA Management Tool by uploading electronic remittances (ERAs) to Jane. If you still have questions, you can visit our fully-loaded FAQ guide which we’re continuing to grow as well.
The first thing you’ll need is the ERA. You’ll be able to find and download ERAs from your clearinghouse, although how and where you download ERAs is different for each clearinghouse.
Note: Integrated Claims with Claim.MD is now live! 🎉 With this enabled, you won’t need to leave Jane to download any ERA files. They will automatically populate in your Remittances folder for you to reconcile in Jane.
Click the links below for some guidance on how to download ERAs from our most commonly used clearinghouses:

- How do I download ERAs from Availity?

Pro Tip: PDFs, ZIPs, and Spreadsheet files (i.e., CSVs) cannot be processed as electronic remittances. Your clearinghouse should have an option to download ERAs in one of the following formats: 835, x12, txt, or dat.
Instructions
To post an insurer payment using an ERA, follow these steps. Once complete, all claim responses in the remittance are marked as Reviewed and the payment is applied to the relevant invoices.
- Go to Billing > Remittances.
- Upload your ERA by dragging and dropping the file into the Remittances folder, or click Upload in the top right corner.
- Once Jane has processed the file, click View to the right of the remittance.
- In the Payment Information section, click Record Payment.
🩵 Jane Tip: Jane pre-fills the payment information from the ERA, so you won't need to enter anything manually.
- Scroll down to the Claim Responses table. For each claim response, you can see the status, description, invoice, staff member, submitted amount, paid amount, adjusted amount, and patient responsibility.
- Select the checkbox in the upper left corner of the Claim Responses table to select all eligible claim responses, then click Apply Changes to Claims.
📣 Heads up: The Apply Changes to Claims button will be greyed out if any selected claim responses are not in an Awaiting Review state. Use the status filter to select only Awaiting Review claims before applying.
What to Expect
While Jane processes your bulk selection, the Claim Responses table locks briefly to prevent claims from being submitted twice. Once processing is complete, the status of each applied claim response updates to Reviewed on the same screen. The remittance status updates from Awaiting Review to In Progress as claim responses are reviewed, and moves to Reviewed once all claim responses are complete.
How do I download ERAs from Claim.MD without the integration?
Select View ERA which can be found under the Claim Menu. Next, select all the ERAs you haven’t processed yet (you can select multiple in one go!). The last step is to click the Select Action dropdown, and choose the Download Selected 835 option.
If you connect your Claim.MD account directly with Jane, you can skip the process entirely & have your ERA’s populate automagically in Jane! Find out more here.
How do I download ERAs from Office Ally?
For full instructions on how to download ERAs, check out Office Ally’s User Manual - Page 15
- Click on Download EOB/ERA 835.
- Select a date on the calendar. Pink dates are days that have pending ERAs.
- Click the View link in the Download/View column next to the ERA file you wish to download. This will download the zip file which contains both the actual 835 file and a readable text version (txt) of the ERA.
You’ll need to upload the 835 file to Jane. Jane can’t process the readable text version!
