Text message (SMS) verification sends a one-time code to your mobile phone number each time you log in. It's a straightforward option if you have a mobile phone and reliable cell service.
Instructions
To set up 2-Step Verification using text messages, follow these steps. Once complete, Jane will send a verification code to your mobile number each time you log in.
- Click your name in the top right corner of Jane and select My Account. On a mobile device, tap the circle with your initials in the upper right corner and select My Account.
- Select 2-Step Verification from the left menu.
- Click Set Up in the Text Message (SMS) section.
- Enter your password and click Next.
- Enter the mobile number you'd like to receive your verification codes at and click Next.
🩵 Jane Tip: If your mobile number is already saved on your staff profile, it will pre-populate in the phone number field. If you enter a different number, it will override and update the number on your staff profile.
- Enter the verification code sent to your phone and click Submit.
- Save your Recovery Code somewhere secure. You can copy it or download it as a PDF.
📣 Heads up: Your Recovery Code is a one-time-use backup code for situations where you can't receive your SMS code. Store it somewhere safe, like a password manager or secure cloud storage.
What to Expect
Once set up, Jane will send a verification code by text to your registered mobile number each time you log in. You'll have just over 5 minutes to enter the code before it expires. If you don't receive a code, you can click Resend code on the verification screen to request a new one.
🩵 Jane Tip: If you've set up more than one 2-Step Verification method, you can choose which one is your default from the 2-Step Verification tab in your My Account area.
Important Notes
- If you update your mobile number from your staff profile, 2-Step Verification will be turned off automatically. You'll need to set it up again from your My Account area once your number is updated.
- If you can't receive SMS codes while travelling, you can use a Recovery Code to log in, or ask your Account Owner or a Full Access user to temporarily disable 2-Step Verification on your profile.
- While SMS verification provides an extra layer of security, the authenticator app option is more secure. See our guide on Setting Up 2-Step Verification Using an Authenticator App for more details.
