As part of how Jane helps protect your data, Jane proactively monitors external sources for compromised login credentials associated with Jane accounts. This guide explains what to do if you hear from Jane about this monitoring and how to keep your account secure.
How It Works
As part of how Jane protects your account, Jane monitors external sources for login credentials associated with Jane accounts. These sources include publicly available datasets where compromised credentials sometimes appear after being collected by harmful software on a user's device.
You might receive an email from Jane if compromised credentials are found associated with your account. This monitoring happens in the background at no cost to you, and it has nothing to do with Jane's systems being compromised. It simply means your staff member's credentials were found somewhere outside of Jane.
🩵 Jane Tip: Not hearing from Jane doesn't necessarily mean your account is fully secure. Credential exposure can happen to anyone. Check out our guide on Security and Privacy Best Practices to keep your account protected.
If You Receive an Email from Jane
If the Jane team reaches out about a potential credential exposure, here's what to do.
- Confirm the email is from Jane. Any security communications from Jane will come from an email address ending in @janeapp.com or @jane.app. If you're unsure, check out our guide on Receiving Support Securely.
- Have the affected staff member end any active sessions on their own account:
- Click their name in the top right corner of Jane.
- Select My Account.
- Go to Sign-in Settings and click Manage Sessions.
- Click End Session next to anything that looks unfamiliar.
- Have the affected staff member scan the device(s) they use to access Jane for harmful software. If you have an IT team, loop them in. If not, a qualified technician can help with this.
- Once the device has been scanned and any harmful software has been removed (if applicable), the affected staff member can reset their own Jane password:
- Go to your clinic's Jane login page and click Forgot your username or password?
- Enter the email address associated with their account and click Lookup My Account.
- Check their email inbox for a message from Jane and follow the instructions to set a new password.
- For more details, see our guide on How to Reset Your Jane Password.
- Turn on 2-Step Verification if it isn't already enabled: Setting Up 2-Step Verification.
- Reply to the email you received to let the Jane team know you've completed the recommended steps.
