Setting Up 2-Step Verification Using a Phone Call

Jane Plan: All plans
Geography: BC, Canada 🇨🇦

With the phone call 2-Step Verification option, you receive an automated phone call with your verification code. It works with mobile phones, but also with landlines or desk phones, so it's a good option if you don't have a mobile phone.

Instructions

To set up 2-Step Verification using a phone call, follow these steps. Once complete, Jane will call your registered number with a verification code each time you log in.

  1. Click your name in the top right corner of Jane and select My Account. On a mobile device, tap the circle with your initials in the upper right corner and select My Account.
  2. Select 2-Step Verification from the left menu.
  3. Click Set up next to the Phone call option.

  1. Enter your password and click Next.
  2. Enter the phone number you'd like to be called at and click Confirm phone number.

🩵 Jane Tip: If your mobile number is already saved on your staff profile, it will pre-populate in the phone number field. Consider using a different number, like a landline or office phone, as a backup in case you lose access to your mobile. Any number you enter here won't overwrite the mobile number saved on your staff profile.

  1. Answer the call and listen for your verification code.

  1. Enter the verification code and click Verify.
  2. Save your Recovery Code somewhere secure. You can copy it or download it as a PDF.

📣 Heads up: Your Recovery Code is a one-time-use backup code for situations where you can't receive your verification code. Store it somewhere safe, like a password manager or secure cloud storage.

What to Expect

Once set up, Jane will call your registered number with a verification code each time you log in. The verification screen will display "We're calling your phone" along with the last four digits of your registered number so you know which phone to expect the call on. You'll have just over 5 minutes to enter the code before it expires. If you miss the call or don't hear the code, you can request a new call from the verification screen.

🩵 Jane Tip: If you've set up more than one 2-Step Verification method, you can choose which one is your default from the 2-Step Verification tab in your My Account area.

Important Notes

  • The phone call option works with any phone that can receive calls, including a landline or desk phone. You don't need a mobile phone or any app to use this method.
  • You can use phone call verification alongside SMS or an authenticator app. Once you've set up more than one method, you can choose one as your default and select Try another way at login to switch between them.
  • If you can't receive your call, you can use your Recovery Code to log in, or ask your Account Owner or a Full Access user to temporarily disable 2-Step Verification on your profile.
