What Happens When a Patient Requests Deletion of Their Data?

Question

What happens when a patient asks a clinic to delete their personal data from Jane?

Answer

The Jane Account Owner is the legal custodian of all data in the account. This means Jane cannot make decisions to delete or change a patient's data independently, as those decisions belong to the clinic.

For more information, see Jane's Terms of Use.

Supporting Information

Patient-initiated account and data deletion requests 🇨🇦

Patients in Canada can request deletion of their account and data through My Account under the Username / Password tab. When a patient submits a request, the Account Owner receives an email with the details. The Account Owner can then review the request, take any necessary action, and follow up with the patient.

For the patient-facing steps, see our guide on how patients can request deletion of personal information.

Patient-initiated saved credit card deletion requests 🇨🇦

Patients in Canada can request deletion of a saved credit card through My Account under the Credit Cards on File tab, when only one payment method remains. This sends an email to the Account Owner with the patient's name and information. The Account Owner can then review the request and remove the card if needed.

🩵 Jane Tip: Requests submitted through Jane come directly from the patient, not from Jane. You can treat them the same way you would any deletion request received outside of Jane.
