Jane Payments is powered by Stripe, our partner in payments. So if you ever need to switch your Jane Payments account type from an Individual to a Business account, or the other way around, you can do that directly in your Stripe Dashboard. This is where you can safely update important details like your business type (see steps below), banking information, or verification documents.
Here’s how to make the switch:
1. Head to your Stripe settings
In Jane, go to Settings → Jane Payments → Pencil icon → Go to Stripe.
This will take you straight to your Stripe Dashboard.
2. Edit your business type.
Once you’re in Stripe, click Settings (bottom left), then select Edit next to Business Type.
3. Choose your new account type.
From the dropdown at the top, pick one of the options (Company, Individual, or Non-Profit)
Then click Save.
If you’re changing from one Company type to another (for example, a single-member LLC to a multi-member LLC in the U.S.), you can do that in the same area under Edit Business Type.
4. Re-accept Stripe’s terms.
After saving your changes, you’ll need to re-accept Stripe’s terms of service for your new account type.
- Click Add next to Ownership Transfer Agreement.
- A pop-up will appear on the right side of your screen.
- Click Continue to accept.
That’s it — your account type will be updated once Stripe confirms the changes.
A Few Helpful Notes
-
If your business was registered within the last 90 days (U.S. only): Stripe may ask for a bit more verification. If you run into any trouble here, our Payments Team will step in to help.
