Hey Jane community,
This month’s updates might seem light at first glance — but we promise, they pack a punch. We’ve focused on features that make your everyday easier, create better communication with patients, and even bring more inclusivity to your practice.
Let’s jump in, shall we?
1) Timesheets update
No need to watch the clock anymore — our new Timesheets Clock-In/Out feature is live. ⏰
A huge thank you to those who shared feedback to help make this happen. Here’s what’s new for your clinic:
- Easily clock in/out directly from your user menu.
- An ‘Open’ timesheet is created when you clock-in, and will be considered completed upon clocking-out. And, if you forget to clock-out at the end of your day, you can always find the Open timesheet in your staff profile.
- Track split shifts or breaks by clocking in/out multiple times a day.
- Plus, you can now create timesheets for future dates which can help in cases where you need to run payroll a few days before the end of your pay period.
But that’s not all — we’ve also spruced up the Timesheets report! We’ve added a detailed breakdown of individual timesheets for all staff members to make it easier for you to run payroll. Check out the changes for yourself by hopping into Reports > Timesheets.

2) Intake form names included in patient emails
We’re excited to finally get this one off your wish list. 👀 We’ve made it easier for you and your patients or clients to understand which forms they need to complete. When patients receive an email from Jane with a call-to-action to fill out forms, the specific forms will be clearly listed in the body of the email.
Previously, we didn’t indicate which forms were required, and left everything behind a generic “Fill Out Intake Form(s)” button. And sometimes, this would cause confusion. 🙃 If patients didn’t realize the emails could contain other important forms (like consent or aftercare documentation), or, if they thought they were being asked to complete the same form again, they might ignore the message.
With this update, there’s no guesswork — patients will see exactly what forms are included in the email. And, if you ever need to verify what forms have been sent to your patients, you can now view the list of forms directly in the email preview under Patient Profile > Messages.
We’re hoping this small but mighty update will help keep everyone on the same page. 😊

3) Renaming Chief Complaint chart part
At Jane, we’re always looking for ways to reflect the values of the incredible community we serve. One small but meaningful change we’re making is how we talk about patient documentation. We’re updating the term “Chief Complaint,” commonly found in the chart section, to “Primary Complaint.”
Why the change? Words matter — especially in healthcare. This change reflects our commitment to fostering respectful and inclusive care for all patients, especially for practices providing care for Indigenous patients, while maintaining clear terminology within the medical context.
Here are a few key things to know about the update:
- This change will take place soon, so we wanted to give you a heads up.
- Your daily workflows will remain the same — you can continue documenting patient concerns as always, just with updated terminology.
- If you’d like to use this chart part in your templates with the new terminology, you’ll want to quickly update your templates. Head to your staff profile > Templates and select view beside your templates, add in the new chart part, and remove the old.
We believe this language update will help practitioners provide culturally sensitive care, a goal we always want to support.
If you have any questions about this update, we’re here to help. Feel free to reach out to our support team or reply directly to this message.

- Security tip on shared devices: Some practitioners have mentioned that they share devices, which is totally fine! But here’s a quick pro tip: Always log out of your account at the end of each session. This small step keeps your account secure and prevents mix-ups, like charts accidentally being saved under the wrong practitioner. Plus, it ensures every practitioner can use the shared device seamlessly. And, if you’re an account owner, make it even easier for your practitioners to stay secure by using the automatic sign-out feature (found under Settings > Security). This feature automatically logs practitioners out after a set period of inactivity. For shared devices, we recommend setting the timeout to 15 minutes.
