Hey Jane community,
Some of the best ideas aren’t ideas at all — they’re insights from your day-to-day. So, here’s an update inspired by exactly that.
(1) Automated Balance Reminders (Insurance)
You’ve let us know that collecting the leftover patient or client balances after insurance payments can be a headache, so we thought: “What if Jane could do that for you?” 👀
With Jane’s new Automated Balance Reminders, your patients will automatically receive Pay Balance notifications once their insurance claims are settled. This should be especially helpful for our folks in the US!
Here’s how it works:
- Jane detects when insurance claims are approved and there’s still a patient balance
- Then, Jane will send a payment request notification to your patient by email, text, or both, the morning after claims are approved
- Clinics will have until the end of the day to fix any errors before an automated balance reminder gets scheduled to send out the next morning
- Patients can then click the link to pay you right from that notification
With Jane managing leftover patient balances for you, we’re hoping this means less time spent tracking your accounts receivable and a greater chance of getting paid on time.

(2) Secure Messaging updates
There are a couple of big updates coming to Secure Messaging in Jane!
First, we wanted to give you a heads-up that we’ve renamed a tab in patient and staff profiles. As we’ve been building out our Secure Messaging feature, we realized that “Messaging” sounds pretty similar to the “Messages” tab that already exists in your staff and patient profiles. So, to avoid confusion, we’ve changed the name of the existing Messages tab (which shows you all the text messages and emails sent from Jane) to Communications.
And, even bigger news! 1:1 Secure Messaging is now in open beta.
The team is excited to introduce this optional feature (included in all plans), designed to make secure communication easier than ever. To clarify, this isn’t SMS messaging — rather, practitioners can send messages directly from Jane, and patients can reply through their secure patient portal. It’s all contained within Jane, ensuring a smooth, secure, and organized way to check in, share updates, or handle those last-minute changes.
Give Messaging a go and let us know what you (and your patients) think!

Honourable Mentions
- Using Jane on a smartphone (update): With the introduction of the Jane mobile app for Canadian patients, we wanted to make sure you can clearly differentiate between the new mobile app and the existing home screen shortcut you may have already saved on your devices. So, we’ve given the Web App icon a little update so you know when you’re accessing the mobile app as a patient, and your Jane account as a practitioner.
- Quick Quantities: Jane’s new Quick Quantity feature lets you type exact numbers in the Quantity section of your treatments, eliminating endless clicks on plus/minus buttons for treatments or products with high quantities, like Botox.
- Address Book: To ensure you can send faxes quickly and accurately through our integrated fax feature, we’ve created an Address Book in Jane. But beyond faxing, you can use this to store non-patient business contacts, like other providers you refer to or pharmacies. You can find the Address Book in your Settings tab.
- Improved Online Appointments: Over the last few months, we’ve been exploring what new and improved Online Appointments could look like — and now we’re excited to share it with everyone! The Improved Online Appointments update focuses on consistently better call quality, regardless of device or internet connection. But we also added some customization for your background with the ability to upload your own image, choose from a selection of default options, or blur your background.
Keep up-to-date on everything that’s new in Jane with our Changelog!
