Jane's Guide

Here's all the help you need to use Jane.

Jane's Monthly Newsletter (April)

Hey Jane community,

What if managing your practice felt exactly how you wanted it to? This month, we’ve got a few updates that put the control right where it belongs — with you.

(1) Jane’s Workshop

Ever wish you could get your hands on new Jane features before they go live? That’s the idea behind Jane’s Workshop. 🛠️

The Workshop is a space inside your Jane account where you can explore in-progress features, see what works (or doesn’t), and share what you think with the team. Think of it as a bit of a test kitchen!

Here’s how it works:

  • Explore beta features in the new Workshop section of your Jane account.
  • Enable or disable the features you want to try out.
  • Give feedback directly to us, helping shape the tools you’ll use every day.
  • Check back for updates and new features to explore.

These features in the Workshop are likely to evolve, change, and maybe even disappear. So, if you want a sneak peek of what the team is working on, you can find the Workshop in your Settings tab.

Check out Jane’s Workshop by heading to Settings > Workshop. We’ll let you know when there are features to try out!

(2) Supervision: new Optional Signature setting

Who doesn’t love options? By the end of this week, Jane’s Supervision feature will include an Optional Signature setting, which lets supervisees choose, chart by chart, whether to request a supervisor’s signature or just sign and lock the chart themselves.

This new setting will come in handy when co-signatures aren’t needed for every chart. So, this could be:

  • Clinics offering treatments that may not require every note to be reviewed by a Medical Director.
  • Regulatory needs require only a certain number or percentage of charts to be signed off.
  • In certain jurisdictions, some notes (like SOAP) might not require review, but treatment plans or discharge documents do.

If you’re a Full Access user, you’ll be able to turn this setting on for individual supervisees in their staff profile.

(3) Improving Relationship management for dependents

Working with families often means juggling a few extra details — and we know how important it is to have tools that support those relationships. And while it’s always been possible to manage families in Jane, we’ve been listening closely to what could make that experience even better.

That’s why we’re working on improvements to relationship management in Jane — making it easier for you to manage these connections and giving families more confidence in how their information is shared. Here’s what’s been released so far:

1️⃣ Patient vs. Contact distinction

  • Not every parent or guardian connected to a patient is a patient themselves. Now, you can easily switch a patient profile to a contact. This removes them from your patient list while safely keeping their information on record.

2️⃣ Patient-facing permissions

  • If you have relationships enabled for online booking, patients can now view, edit, or disconnect the permissions associated with their profile, giving them more clarity and control over how their information is shared.

And there’s more in the works. The team’s working on clearer ways to share financial info, like letting parents and guardians receive invoices and statements without their dependents being notified. They’re also working on an easier way for patients to set up their own relationships online (so they can check that everything’s connected from the get-go).

Have any thoughts about relationship management? We’d really love to hear them. Whether it’s an idea, a concern, or just something you’re excited about, we’re all ears. Fill out this form and tell us what you’re thinking.

Honourable Mentions

- Secure Messaging: Secure messaging is now in open beta and ready for you to enable in your Settings. Secure messaging (1:1) allows practitioners & admin users to chat to patients without leaving Jane — keeping everything secure and in one place. Your patients can safely reply through their patient portal and get email notifications when there’s a new message waiting. It’s a more secure and easier way to stay in touch without the hassle of phone tag or emails.

Keep up-to-date on everything that’s new in Jane with our Changelog!

That’s everything for now. Thanks for being here — and for helping us make Jane better, one little experiment at a time.

Until next time,

Ali and Trevor, Co-Founders of Jane
