Updating Your Insurance Policies After Importing to Jane

You’ve imported your insurers and insurance policies to Jane and you want to get started - great!

Here are a couple of common areas that customers have needed some direction in the past, so we’ve compiled this list to help you get going.

Multiple Insurers Present

After importing your insurers or policies, you may notice that you have multiple insurers that are the same insurer. This can be either from staff in the past creating the same insurers again for specific reasons or at times erroneously (changing ABC to Anthem Blue Cross), or if your insurers have different tiers of insurance plans that your previous software was able to group under a single insurer, which Jane can’t currently accommodate.

Jane is also case sensitive, so if you have multiple insurers in your file that are actually one single insurer, as such:

  • Anthem Blue Cross
  • ABC
  • anthem blue cross

Each of these insurers Jane considers different and will be imported as 3 different insurers with the corresponding policies under each of them.

How do I organize my policies if there are multiple insurers for the same insurer?

Great question! What you’ll need to do is close the policies under the insurers that you no longer wish to use, and re-create them under the one insurer you’d like to continue to use. This may involve a bit of work to organize fully but will be easy to navigate and track policies ongoing in Jane.

Policy Numbers and Group IDs

When importing policies to Jane, at this time we’re currently able to import the Policy Number, but not the Group ID/Plan Number.

If your data had both included, we’ve imported the Group ID/Plan Number as a Note on the patient profile, which you’ll need to update in the policy as you see patients that have a policy.

You can get here by going to the Patient Profile > Billing > Insurance Policies > Edit the policy that you want to update and enter the number there, which you can reference in the patient note.
