Kate: Registered Clinical Counsellor Melissa: Registered Social Worker

Kate Borsato and Melissa Medjuck are perinatal mental health therapists and co-owners of The Perinatal Collective, a Canada-wide therapy practice supporting people through pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood. Kate, the founder of The Perinatal Collective, is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a background in counselling psychology. Melissa is a Registered Social Worker, certified birth and postpartum doula, and former adjunct professor in social work. Together, they lead a team of therapists across the country who are passionate about providing accessible, compassionate care to families during one of life’s most transformative seasons. Their shared vision is to speak about perinatal mental health in a way that’s honest, bold, and deeply human—so people feel less alone in their experiences. Beyond therapy, they support perinatal professionals through training, conferences, and resources that aim to improve care and build stronger systems of support. Kate and Melissa are committed to shifting the conversation around parental mental health—reducing shame, challenging outdated narratives, and advocating for better care at every level.

✈️ What area of the world do you most want to visit?

Melissa: I travelled a lot before having kids, and now I’d love to go back and experience it all again—this time through their eyes. France is at the top of our list. The idea of baguettes, bikes, and hearing my kids speak French with locals feels kind of dreamy. Kate: I’ve always wanted to do a market tour around the world—eating, people-watching, and getting to know places through their street life. But honestly? A beach with sunshine and no devices sounds like absolute heaven right now.

💙 What’s one thing you tell everyone they need to know about Jane?

Melissa: Jane brings so much ease to our day-to-day. It’s saved us hours on admin, and the support team is amazing—super responsive and actually helpful. Even as someone who’s not naturally techy, I always feel like I can figure it out. Kate: The support is hands-down the best part. We never feel stuck. And I love how Jane is designed, it's so intuitive, but it also feels warm and human.

📚 What is your favourite way to learn something new?

Melissa: Through real connection. I love learning through deep conversations, creativity, and giving myself time to process. When something clicks emotionally, it really sticks for me. Kate: I tend to dive in fast—figure it out as I go, fail a little (or a lot), regroup, and try again. It’s sometimes messy, but it helps me learn through experience, and have fun with bursts of creativity and ambition along the way.

🎧 Podcast or book recommendation?

Melissa: We Can Do Hard Things is one I come back to all the time—it’s raw, thoughtful, and often hits right where I need it. And I love All There Is by Anderson Cooper, too. One of my all time fav books is All Fours by Miranda July, and I keep stacks of poetry by writers like Andrea Gibson, Ocean Vuong, and Mary Oliver in every room. Kate: I’m admittedly a bit obsessed with learning why we are the way we are, so I love anything psychology or human-nature focused—Radical Acceptance (Brach), Anchored (Dana), Self-Compassion (Neff). And recently, Melissa nudged me to read All Fours, and I just might be heading back to my fiction era now!
