So nice of you to visit our job announcement page! I’m Denzil, Jane’s Director of Content & Communications.

I’m looking for Jane’s first PR Manager to help us build out a customer-focused, in-house thought leadership and PR program. 😀 I’m elated to be hiring for this role because there is so much exciting work to be done in telling the story of our unique company.

A little background, our team is focused on delivering content to a community of allied health professionals using a multi-channel strategy that ultimately helps us meet the company mission of helping the helpers (…the helpers being allied health professionals). We work across product marketing, ambassador and partner programs, paid advertising, internal comms, content marketing, and now we will be growing our thought leadership and PR efforts.

As PR Manager, you will be building the overall strategy across the PR space that will position Jane as the buzz-worthy, leading brand crafting the future of the allied health space. A few initial goals will be to drive our brand awareness with good thought leadership bylines and executive speaking engagements in North America, and accelerate Jane’s brand awareness with the Canadian tech and developer community to support our recruiting efforts.

The best candidate for this role is a compelling and strategic storyteller who can craft genuine, helpful, and inspiring narratives and land them with external press and industry outlets, at the right time and on the right channels in order to build a passionate audience for Jane. You are equally comfortable engaging with the editors, journalists, and you understand that building real relationships with them takes time, is a two-way street, and can only be executed well by understanding their daily realities.

Like with all positions at Jane, this position is a remote position, allowing you to work anywhere you want across Canada. We’re a North Vancouver-born SaaS company with a distributed remote team across Canada, and our platform is modernizing the world of practice management software. We enable the likes of physiotherapists, mental health counsellors, chiropractors, and other allied health practitioners to run their practices in a digital-first way through features such as online booking, charting, scheduling, secure video, and billing along with an evolving library of features.

Tens of thousands of healthcare practices globally are now running on Jane. In 2021, we processed over 73 million patient appointments, and our scheduling application alone handles more than 10 million API calls per day. Jane is now the number one choice for Allied Healthcare practitioners in Canada. We’re growing quicker in the US than we were here in Canada 3 years ago, and we’re now helping run clinics in 44 countries.

We’re profitable, customer-led, and growing organically to the point where 85% of our customer growth is either from customer referrals or word of mouth. Growth like this is unique, especially in the world of SaaS, and it doesn’t happen by chance. We have a brilliant team of over 300 employees who all do an amazing job of listening to our customers, building what they need, and providing industry-leading support.

2023 will continue to be a big year for Jane as we continue to invest heavily into our product innovation. To be successful in this role...

  • You must have in-house experience building strategy across the PR space, positioning companies (ideally SaaS) as industry leaders, and creating PR plans for major go-to-market and brand awareness campaigns
  • You are comfortable staying informed on industry and competitive news and using that knowledge to cultivate and manage relationships with relevant technology, business, and health care reporters, reviewers, influencers, and other media partners
  • Creating clear and concise narratives around a company’s vision, products, and people based on a deep knowledge of key messaging is second nature to you. You shape news angles, prepare press materials, and build relationships with journalists at mainstream and trade publications
  • You know how to align PR strategies with business milestones and work in close partnership with internal stakeholders, from subject-matter experts to senior leadership and CEO
  • You have experience building thought leadership programs that advance a company’s key narratives
  • You are familiar with both traditional and non-traditional means for communicating company success stories, and you bring fresh ideas to the table
  • Developing success metrics around a company’s PR program, tracking progress, and reporting on that progress is exciting to you
  • You are able to drive executive visibility by securing speaking engagements, developing thought leadership content, and more

What you need

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or related field
  • 6+ years experience at high-growth startups as in-house PR communications role is a must
  • Experience researching, pitching media, and securing bylines, thought leadership placements in industry, tech, and business publications
  • A solid black book of journalist contacts across relevant verticals or demonstrated ability to build one for Jane’s needs
  • Proven ability to concept and execute world-class public relations strategies for start-up brands
  • Solid experience securing relevant speaking engagements for executive thought leadership.
  • Fluency in English, plus a sharp understanding of grammar, AP style, and deep knowledge of the technical side of writing. For example how to actually properly use commas (but really…you know how to use commas across a variety of sentence structure formats and you know the grammar rules underneath these decisions - and you love helping others come up to speed)
  • Strong research and writing skills in English, with an ability to translate nuanced technical topics into relevant, understandable content for the average person
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Able to turn data/research into storytelling/news opportunities
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize, manage workload to strict deadlines and operate effectively under remote management
  • Team player and creative thinker
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced industry and managing a fluid workload

Bonus points

  • An optimistic and resilient spirit, able to seamlessly define high-level strategy and complete the ideas
  • Able to identify and train internal spokespeople
  • Existing relationships with tech, finance, business, and/or general news journalists
  • Experience in marketing, social media, product marketing, and/or related areas
  • Understanding of PR and common tech tools, such as Muck Rack, Slack, Notion
  • An entrepreneurial spirit, including a strong ability to work independently and autonomously with an instinct for when to ask for clarity or assistance
