The following COVID-19 Small Business Response Plan is a list of resources that may be of assistance to you and your team. Some of the resources may not apply to you, but taking advantage of 1 or 2 could significantly improve your financial health and that of your employees.

April 24

  • Trudeau announced new business loan relief program that will cover up to 75% of commercial rent costs through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. A portion of these loans will be non-repayable. Details and application process are yet to be released. One comment that came with this announcement was that the plan is that this relief does not come with cumbersome eligibility criteria so that the aid can be accessed fairly easily.

April 16

  • New CERB eligibility rules: people are now allowed to earn up to $1,000 per month while collecting CERB (this includes part-time and seasonal workers now).

April 6 - Canada CERB Portal

  • The portal for accessing the CERB is at Canada.ca where Canadians can apply, enter direct deposit information, and start receiving $2,000 per month for 4 months within 10 days.

  • New aid coming for contract workers

Small Business Response Plan

  • Jane’s Canadian Small Business Response Plan: Here you can find our list of federal support for small businesses.

  • Broadband Fund for Businesses: This fund provides financial assistance to local Prince Edward Island internet service providers, communities and businesses for the installation of infrastructure for enhanced broadband services. The fund provides a contribution of up to 50% of the eligible costs for a project approved for funding.

  • Emergency Income Relief for the Self-Employed: Put in place to support the self-employed, those that have been significantly affected by COVID-19 may qualify for this temporary program. More FAQs can be found here.

  • Emergency Relief - Worker Assistance Program: If you have reduced hours as a result of COVID-19, your workers may qualify for this temporary program.

  • Employee Gift Card Program: Employees that have received an ROE for a lay-off as a result of COVID-19, between the dates of March 13th-April 15th, 2020 can apply to receive a $100 Sobeys gift card.

  • COVID-19 Income Support Fund: This is a temporary program designed to provide financial support to individuals who meet the criteria outlined here. This is a one-time lump sum payment of $750 from the Government of Prince Edward Island.

  • COVID-19 Special Situation Fund for businesses and organizations: This is a temporary program put in place to support businesses that have been affected by COVID-19, and are not eligible for federal or provincial financial support.

  • Emergency Working Capital Financing: “Eligible applicants can apply to receive a working capital loan of up to $100,000 with a fixed interest rate of 4% per annum to be used to assist with fixed operating costs (including payroll, rent, utilities etc) with principal & interest payments deferred for a minimum of 12 months.”

  • COVID-19 Business Adaptation Advice Program: This program provides a non-repayable contribution toward the cost for a Prince Edward Island businesses to hire a professional to provide advice and support to adapt to or recover from the impacts of COVID-19. Advice includes topics such as transitioning to digital or IT solutions, financial planning and marketing.
